The Wish Behind the Words

I know you're wondering...why a book about the end-of-life? People die and we can't do anything to stop it. But sometimes, the someone who is dying, who knows their time here is limited, starts counting the days. As their time gets shorter, so does their temper, and the only thing growing is their anger, sorrow, depression, and anxiety.

If they weren't dying, you would refer them to a counselor, or psychologist, because as a doctor, or educator, or even as a friend, you really don't want them to suffer. But when the end-of-life is rushing at them, there is no time for rounds of counseling or weeks of therapy. They are likely too sick to attend those things anyway.

So, what do you tell someone with tears in their eyes when they ask, "What can I do? or "How can I help?"

What if I told you, I asked those questions? No one could give me a good answer. I was desperate to help, and no one could help me.

I was determined to find a way. I wanted to do something different and truly meaningful that would make the remaining time easier by countering anxiety, loneliness, and depression!

I had no idea that my leap outside the box would create revolutionary results!

I have been doing this for the dying for over 30 years with great success!

It is low in cost, economical in time, and easy to do.

No trips to the hospital or the person's home are necessary.

It requires two things to achieve the best outcome...consistency and anonymity.

Anyone can do it. I've seen school children do this for a sick classmate.

In Desperate to Help, I detail this revolutionary method by taking you through the journey that led me from desperation to relief. When you finish the book, you will understand this simple method than enables you to assist someone in making their final crossing with a hopeful mindset and a peaceful spirit. You will feel an amazing sense of purpose and fulfillment knowing that you helped when help was what they needed most!

Improve Someone's End-of-Life Experience...When They Need It Most!

Do Something that Actually Works!
(It will change their life
and yours!)

Three transformations emerge after reading this book...

1. No More Guilty Feelings...I wish I had done something...

In 2008, Steve called and asked me to add his friend Danny (diagnosed with terminal brain cancer) to my project. "I just spent several hours at the hospital with him, I can't believe this is happening to another friend." I did as he asked. Six months later, Danny passed. I got another call. "I swore I would never do this again. I'm ashamed to admit I never went back after that first time. I feel awful and guilty. Why couldn't I just go back, even once? What's wrong with me?"

I told Steve what I am telling you. Guilt and avoidance are very human responses to death, in all its forms. Danny received the benefits of the project, because I took him on at Steve's request. But Steve was still wracked with guilt because he didn't do it himself.

When you do this project, it removes your guilt, because you are doing something amazing for that friend or loved one. Desperate to Help shows you how. Anyone can do this. You can do this, too!

2. You Will Discover Elation...easing a person's transition brings you joy!

When my cousin was told his time was limited. All I could think about was how he was feeling. Thinking about leaving your wife, your kids, your siblings, and your friends behind preys on your mind causing anxiety and depression.

I can't begin to describe my feelings of elation when I discovered that the project played a major role in keeping Joe's mind and thoughts occupied and making his remaining time positive for himself and his family.

Once you have experienced this feeling, you want it over and over again.

This project makes it likely to keep getting that feeling.

3. You Become a Hero...a miracle worker, joining others in giving someone a serene end-of-life journey

When I told my mother what I was doing, she was mortified. She had never heard of such a thing and thought others might think I was doing it as a sick joke. I assured her that what I was doing would help Joe. Nothing makes you question yourself like a parent who doesn't believe in you. But when Joe passed, and everyone was talking about the project and wondering who had done this wonderful thing, I knew I was right. So I continued with projects for others for over 30 years.

Twenty years after Joe passed, I went back to the surviving family members (Joe's family and families of others). I wanted to know if and how the project helped. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

It's hard to find fault with something that works as well as this. You can't argue the numbers. Success stories tell the tale!

Why I'm Giving the Book Away at Cost...

(No, it's not a gimmick)

I am selling each book at the cost
of printing, fulfillment, and shipping,
and not one penny more.

Why am I doing this?

I'm definitely not a saint, no matter how many testimonials I get from actual popes! But really, there are two reasons I'm doing this.

I've spent 34 years developing and practicing this method for helping those wracked with depression and anxiety while obsessing about the end of their lives.

Unlike the rest of us, they know approximately how much time they have left with their loved ones and friends. Their anxiety grows stronger, as their time
becomes shorter.

I've experienced the power of the system firsthand. It's changed my life immeasurably and improved the end-of-life for many dying individuals. My biggest regret is being unable to do this for every terminal patient in need!

First of all, I'm doing this because I don't want you to waste your time figuring it out when I've already done the legwork for you. I would much rather you be able to jump in and start making a difference right away.

To that end, it's important to get this book into as many hands as possible.

Get the book. Read it. Not only will you reap the benefits of doing this project yourself, you will be prepared when someone asks "What can I do?" or "How can I help?" Before this, you didn't have an answer. Advising them to get this book may be the best thing you can possibly do. They will feel the satisfaction of helping that dying patient drastically improve his or her remaining days.

I can't think of a more incredible gift to give someone who is dying! I would like to believe they take those feelings with them when they go.

The second reason I'm selling this book at cost is because I know that by transforming your life and the lives of others, you may become interested in other things I will share that will transform you even further!

That is all.

I know that Desperate to Help will change your life,
and I can't wait for you to read it!

About the Author

Meet the Woman who Started the End-of-Life Revolution:
the Person who Believes that Everyone at Every Level can Help the Dying

Betsy started her book career early, growing up armed with a library card and a voracious appetite for books. Her mother put her foot down when she came home in fifth grade with

The Scarlet Letter and a copy of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales buried in

her stack of summer reading. This fascination with books fueled her dream to be a writer. Since there was "no future" in being a writer, Betsy went off to Ohio State University to start a journey in the medical field. It was the first step in a "storied" career.

Switching from nursing to medical technology was an easy leap. When she left Columbus, she worked in a commercial blood bank, where she honed her vampire skills, and assisted a researcher in techniques to identify the rare, but naturally occurring, anti-hemophilia factor 8 in units of donor blood. Then she spent four years working in the bacteriology section of a clinical pathology laboratory. When her vampire skills became known, she added head phlebotomist to her work load, often making house calls on difficult or immobile patients before heading to the lab.

This was followed by marriage, the birth of her son, and another path that kept her closer to home. Betsy started working at Lake Erie College, entering records and backing up accounting data on a main-frame computer. It was only part-time, but she loved riding the cutting edge of tech. Her next adventure was working for a local electronics firm in the engineering department, where she did technical writing, translating customer blueprints into step-by-step instructions to produce jumper cables for main-frame computers.

Four years later, issues with a second pregnancy forced her to stay home. When her daughter entered school, Betsy was back on the hunt for a new position. It was during this job search that she started the project that led to writing this book, Desperate to Help.

Her new employer was looking for a candidate who could write and had a medical background. Betsy was a perfect fit. After a few years, she
graduated to head writer and editor and remained at that pharmaceutical CRO for 33 years. Betsy was innovative at her day job, pushing for increased and improved technological solutions to make the processes faster and more efficient...but she never stopped writing.

By night, her freelance projects included theater reviews, regulatory submissions, editing books for other authors, and developing creative content for a Detroit advertising agency, where she wrote product manuals, auto showroom catalogues, and voice scripts for a major auto maker.

She also authored (4) and coauthored (2) non-fiction books, wrote two children’s books, appeared as a TV or radio talk show guest in the UK, Cleveland, Virginia, Texas, Michigan, and Florida and has been a guest on
several podcasts. Experienced in public speaking, Betsy was featured by several organizations including the National Writers Union, the American Association of University Women, and the American Business Women’s Association.

When she wasn't busy on a computer keyboard, she spent nine years as the vocal half of the musical duo, Sabbatical. Betsy has been writing
weekly Substack posts as “Ye Olde Wench” since August of 2023.

Now, when not writing, she spends time with family and friends, visiting the local wineries, and listening to live music. (Sometimes she’ll even sing on request!)

Betsy lives in North East Ohio wine country with her husband, Jim. Their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are scattered from the

Midwest to the East Coast!
